Hay Hay it’s Global Running Day! And to celebrate, I’m participating in an interview link-up with Jonesin’ For a Run!
Why do you run? Well, I started because running a 5K was on my bucket list and I finally had the chance to do Couch 2 5K. Then I realized that when I ran 3-4 times a week, my anxiety was at a more manageable level. Then I ran my first 5K and realized I kinda liked this running thing!
How do you plan to celebrate National Running Day? Hopefully with a post-dinner run. I’m aiming for three runs this week. A lot of that depends on Mr Boots coming home from work on time though.
How many miles have you run so far this year? I don’t know about running specifically, but I’ve walked and/or run a total of 432.81 miles so far.
Do you have a mileage goal for the year? YES! I registered for the Run the Year Challenge and am hoping to log 2,016 miles (running or walking) this year.
What big events do you have on the race calendar so far this year? The two on my calendar are Mother’s Day 5K and the INOVA StarKid 5K. Ongoing for the year is the Run the Year Challenge I signed up for. I am also keeping my fingers crossed I can register for the Pink Heals Color Rush this fall. I had a blast running it last year!
Before I leave for a run I must have: My phone is my must-have. Mostly I need it to track my miles, but the music helps too! Oh! And my FitBit. OOOHHHH, I hate leaving the house without it.
Who is your favorite running partner? My kids. They don’t complain (much). They’re in the stroller when I take them with me so I can concentrate on walking/running at my own pace. I’ve only run with someone once and I didn’t care for it. I worry too much about keeping up with them — or slowing them down!
What races have you run so far this year? I’ve run a Mother’s Day 5K benefiting the American Cancer Society.
If you have to give someone one piece of advice about running, what would it be? Only be in competition with yourself. I think running my first 5K taught me that. Just start and begin setting goals based on where YOU are.
