Gettin’ Fit Friday #15

Despite not writing Gettin’ Fit Friday posts for months, I feel like I was doing pretty well until school started. I happy with my weight, though I knew if I tried harder I could tone up and possibly lose a few more pounds. But I didn’t try much.

At the beginning of the summer, I trained for a 5K I ended up not running. I bought a double jogging stroller and walked more than I ran until it got hot. I switched my focus to pole, live PiYo, and flexibility. I was taking three classes a week and it was great. I felt good and also felt good mentally and emotionally.

Then August came and the studio announced they’d be closing September 1.

By the end of the month, it had dawned on me I’d need to figure out what I’d do next. I considered dusting off my PiYo DVDs, but doing that at home can get boring. I needed interaction with live (adult!) people. I’d been taking pole classes for 8 years – it’s the one form of exercise I’ve stuck with. What was I going to do without it?

Then, a few days before the studio was to close, they announced they found a new partner and would be taking a month off to work on making things better for their clients. YAY! The studio wouldn’t shut down for good after all.

But that one month break ended up being two for me, and while my weight didn’t vary much, I definitely started feeling more jiggly at the end of month two. And irritable. OMGoodness, I really do need to get out and move to help me keep me emotionally stable.

Getting back into a workout routine has been hard. I went for my first pole class after a 1.5 month break and got a bruise on the back of my leg so bad I couldn’t sit for a week. It’s totally normal to bruise, but never in the 8 years of taking pole classes have I gotten a “pole kiss” so bad. When it healed enough for me to go back I got sick. And the studio revamped their schedule, so finding classes I like while spacing them out during the week (rest in between is a good thing!) wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be.

There is no more live PiYo, but flexibility is still being offered. I’m branching out and trying out some of the classes I’m less interested in. I took one last night called Pole Flow which teaches a different dance routine every few weeks. I think I’ll be taking that from now on. I miss the dance aspect of pole since moving from my first studio.

  1. I need to get back on the healthy eating, walking, running, not eating cake all of the time every day type train! Impressive splits, I couldn’t even do them when I was young!! #weekendblogshare
