NaBloPoMo 2016: Goals

(This post may contain affiliate links. For more information, please read my full disclosure.)

I’m so excited that BlogHer is hosting NaBloPoMo again this year. For a while it looked like it wasn’t going to happen. I was going to challenge myself regardless, but there’s something about being on the official blog roll that helps me be accountable.

What the heck is NaBloPoMo?

NaBloPoMo stands for National Blog Posting Month. It was started in 2006 by Eden Kennedy who, after unsuccessfully completing NaNoWriMo the year before, decided she’d try to post on her blog every day for a month. About 2,000 bloggers joined her that year. 6,000 participated the next, and by 2010 NaBloPoMo had over 16,000 members!

Eden sold NaBloPoMo to BlogHer in 2010, where it’s been hosted since.

Melissa Ford took it under her wing, but stepped down this year, which is why some of us didn’t know if it was going to officially happen. It was kept on the down low until the end of October.

This is my (holy crap!) fourth year participating, and it always surprises me how hard challenging it is to create content every day. Sometimes I’m able to work ahead. Sometimes all I’m able to do is post a picture (which I totally count because this is blog POSTING month). The long Thanksgiving weekend tries to trip me up because I’m spending time with family vs. using nap time to write.

A challenge I’ve faced in the past is not knowing what to write about, so I’m using this month to catch up on drafts. My planner also has a running list of posts I want to write/share. These have been carried over each week for months. Stay tuned for posts that should have been written back in July!

NaBloPoMo 2016 Goals

While I stared at my list of potential posts, I realized I also had a few goals in mind for this year…

* Publish something here every day – even if that ends up being a photo I’ve taken for a Wordless Wednesday. Because posting month.

* Bring back my Gettin’ Fit Friday link up. This will help fill my Friday space, but I’ve also felt more fluffy than usual. Exercise has been pretty much nil over the last two months, and I need to find motivation to get back on the wagon. I’m hoping it will help keep me accountable.

* Read and comment on blogs. This is my #1 goal. In the past I was focused on writing and posting every day in my space (it’s truly a challenge!). I read a few others, but never spent as much time writing to bloggers who were participating. I am actually excited about reading other blogs this year. A few ladies I follow on social media are dusting off their blogs to give this a shot. I love reading their tweets and looking at their Instagram accounts, but I’ve missed reading their blogs! I’ve also joined a few blogging Facebook groups to grow my audience and hopefully find a tribe. I don’t seem to have a blogging tribe anymore and I miss that. (That’s partly my fault because to have a tribe you need to comment!)

* Use my D3100 more than my phone for blog pictures. I’ve actually been doing this, but it might be hard now I got my new iPhone. New phone = a camera that hasn’t been dropped, licked, or carried in my back pocket for 2+ years = it takes decent pictures right now! But I’ve decided I want to try and make photography a part of my blog, and to do that I want to use my DSLR.

Want to challenge yourself? Join the blog roll before November 5 and you’ll be entered to win a pass to #BlogHer17! BlogHer will post the completed blogroll on Monday, November 7, which will help make supporting fellow NaBloPoMo-ers easier 🙂

What are your NaBloPoMo 2016 goals?

  1. This is my first NaBloPoMo so now I know who to ask when I have questions — you’re a pro! I love your goal of using your real camera for photos. I used to do that, but man, the camera on my phone is so good I’ve forgotten how to use my Big Girl Camera. Maybe I should make that a goal. I am going to call this year a win if I manage to post every day. =)

  2. This is definitely inspiring. I can’t commit this year, as I am also planning out a memoir for NaNoWriMo but I am posting pretty consistently. I am also trying to comment more and get to know more people with similar interests.
I also need to figure out my planning – right now it’s quite a jumble if you know what I mean 🙂

    1. I was originally going to attempt NaNoWriMo because I got a story stuck in my head this year! But I didn’t do enough planning for me to feel like I could commit to it. I want to give it a shot one year though! Good luck!!!!

  3. Oh this is such a fun and challenging idea!! Great goals! haha my goal is just to post once a week, and I have a hard time doing that! Such a huge commitment for you! What an inspiration! Best of luck to you!!

  4. This sounds super exciting, I may have to try and join next year. Good luck with your daily posts, I’m sure it will be a challenge, but I’m sure you’ll manage it too and yes, a photo definitely counts. Have a great and productive weekend #weekendblogshare
