Help Moms #ClimbOut – Giveaway

Climb Out of the Darkness 2015I’m super excited to host my very first giveaway! I’m even more excited it’s for a cause I believe in. My original plan was to enter everyone who donated $10 to Postpartum Progress into a raffle for these prizes, but a few kind bloggers pointed out that by doing so, I’d more than likely be hosting an illegal lottery. Since this isn’t something I want to go to jail over, I’m asking for your help in spreading the word on the world-wide Climb Out of the Darkness event benefiting Postpartum Progress and perinatal mental illnesses. My hope is that by sharing, it will raise awareness and get more people involved in the Climb in some way.

If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you’ve more than likely seen Postpartum Progress’ name here and there. I don’t think I needed help from them as much as I did when I moved to Fredericksburg and realized I was going to need a plan when L arrived if I wanted to try to avoid postpartum depression. Google was useless in finding a therapist specializing in postpartum mood disorders in my new city. Postpartum Progress led me to PSVa’s list of therapists referred by patients. It was through that list that I found my current therapist. Although I still have to travel up to Northern Virginia to see her, it’s been worth it because she is a reproductive therapist and is knowledgeable about perinatal mood disorders. This has made a huge difference for me.

Who is Postpartum Progress?

Postpartum Progress is a peer-run, peer-focused 501c3 organization that works to create an atmosphere in which women can recognize when they need help for maternal mental illness, feel safe reaching out for that help, and know that a community of thousands of other mothers stands beside them and behind them.

We are catalysts. We are champions. We are instigators and innovators. We know without a scintilla of doubt that the mental health of every mother is absolutely crucial to the current and future health of her child, and we’re determined to make sure mothers are able to recover from perinatal mood and anxiety disorders as soon as possible.

What is Climb Out of the Darkness?

Climb Out of the Darkness® is the world’s largest event raising awareness of postpartum depression, anxiety, PTSD, psychosis and pregnancy depression. The event was created by and benefits Postpartum Progress Inc., a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization that raises awareness and supports pregnant and new moms with these illnesses.

Women around the world participate in this grassroots event by going on a hike outside on the longest day of the year to shine a light on PPD and related illnesses. The event is open to anyone and everyone who supports our cause. Anyone can participate, as long as they register. Registration is free.

People who participate are not required to raise money, although of course Postpartum Progress encourages it because it’s the only way we can operate and expand our programs to support moms.

Since January, I’ve been writing to big chain stores, pediatric offices, OB’s and midwives, lactation consultants, and mom groups in my area telling them about Climb Out of the Darkness, trying to raise awareness of what Postpartum Progress does, and ask for their help in raising funds. I wrote to several companies asking if they would consider donating an item or two for my blog giveaway. Silpada kindly donated two necklaces and I am adding something as well.

What is being given away?
1 Retired Blue Streak necklace from Silpada ($159 value)

1 Retired Silpada 31″ Sterling Silver necklace ($99 value)

1 copy of The Mandala Coloring Book (value $9.36). I color in this book almost daily and it really has helped me calm down a bit after a busy day of #ClimbOut and Postpartum Progress fundraising.

How will the winners be chosen?

The raffle is for US residents only. I’ll be picking winners via Rafflecopter on June 21, 2015. If chosen, you will receive an email from me and you will have 48 hours to provide me with your mailing address. Your prize will be mailed by June 27, 2015 and I will email you to let you know when I’ve done so. This is my first time using Rafflecopter, so please let me know if anything seems wacky to you. I tried to keep the giveaway as simple as possible.

Good luck and thank you for helping moms everywhere #ClimbOut!
