One of the tings I’ve been itching to do this year is buy a double jogging stroller. It’s actually been one of the things on my 2016 fitness goal list and I’ve been determined to cross this item off the list. I finally got my wish last week when a BuyBuy Baby coupon came through my email. I did the math and I could buy a brand new cheap one for the same price as a used higher-end one. So, after stating my case to Mr Boots, I ordered one and I have been extremely giddy about it ever since. It arrived on Saturday, I put it together myself, and I was finally able to take it out for it’s inaugural walk this morning — with the boys grumbling about it until I bribed them with donuts, turtle watching, and rock throwing.
I brought along my good camera so I could take some pictures of the boys playing by the river and whatever else struck my fancy while we walked along a 3.5 mile path. We stopped about a mile in so the boys could throw extra rocks from my Climb Out of the Darkness event into the river — and so I could eat a donut and enjoy my coffee before it seeped through the paper cup. During the boys’ rock throwing session, a lady spotted me trying to take their picture and called out to me. She asked if I wanted my picture taken with the boys. I haven’t had strangers ask me this before – hell I don’t even have people I know ask me! – so I stammered a moment before saying yes.
I’m so glad I did!
I am a hot, sweaty mess from having walked a mile in the sunshine and heat. L had donut all over his face. But you know what? I don’t care. I don’t have many pictures of myself and the boys that aren’t taken selfie-style.
Thank you, mom of nine. Thank you for knowing what it is like to be the one behind the lens and rarely in front of it. Thank you for taking a moment to capture one of my kids and I. I promise I will pay this one forward!
